This is one of my favorite coffees, and I'm fussy when it comes to coffee. The hazelnut flavor is noticeable without being too pronounced, and the coffee itself is from quality beans. There is no burnt or metallic flavor, which sometimes happens with beans of a lesser quality. Eight O'Clock coffee of any flavor is excellent, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Using whole bean rather than ground coffee is the best way to make fresh-tasting coffee every day.

This Eight O'clock coffee is most assuredly, 'finestkind'! You can go out and plunk down bundles of bucks for your 'high-fallutin' name-brand coffee, but you'll only be spittin' in the wind. The French roast is robust, smooth, and aromatic, with no trace of bitterness. The original [red bag] is excellent, as well. We usually buy the whole beans and grind them at home. If you're not already using the Melita funnel drip system, give it a try. After all, your coffee will only be as good as the water you start with! Have you ever experienced a decidedly sour cup of coffee? If you have, look no further than the coffee-maker's water delivery system. In between batches, the stagnant water in the tubing becomes a bit funky. I once tore-down a typical brewing machine, the greenish slime that I found in the water lines was the stuff of sci-fi thrillers! Incidentally, for all of you coffee connoisseur snobs out there, if this brand of coffee was good enough for my parents' ol' percolator, than it's certainly plenty good enough for me.

We are daily home brewers and love full flavors like French Roast. After bouncing around from various retailer chain-branded coffees (which were inconsistent in my opinion), and occasionally trying the stronger roasts of more maintstream coffee brands, we decided to try Eight O'Clock. I think I heard it was highly regarded by Consumer Reports. Aside from the convenience and value of buying in bulk here, we are loving the taste - smooth, rich and no bitterness. Great product.

I am a regular expresso coffee drinker of some duration, having been brought up in an Italian household. Further, I've lived in Rome and have spent 13 of the last 14 Septembers in Italy. In short, I have some experience in the matter.



It has been my custom to bring home various expresso coffees from Italy upon our return. Lavazza makes several types of coffee, and I've tried them in the past. The results of my purchase of the 8 oz cans confirms my earlier suspicion that it is of modest and moderate quality. The brewed coffee has a cloudy and turbid appearance, with fair taste quality.



In my view, and that of most Italians, if one can only buy Lavazza Qualita Oro, then do so, but, unquestionably, Illy is the brand to buy.

We found the ground version of the 50/50 8 o'clock coffee in Florida. We couldn't find it when we got home. Fortunately it was available on Amazon. This is the best coffee we have made in our all in one coffee pot (grind and brew). Even Dunkin' Donuts beans were not as good. However, Dunkin' Donuts is the best when you buy it brewed at their stores (wish I knew the secret). This 8 o'clock coffee is the closest we can get at home to the Dunkin' Donuts stores.

This drip coffee is extremely smooth and as all lavazza coffees are - very high quality. If you're a flavored coffee drinker and like to dose your coffee with sugar - do NOT do it with Premium Drip. You don't need anything in this coffee to make it palatable. It's a light roast which makes it very smooth so if you want a stronger coffee, you'll need to add a scoop or two to your normal brew process. By the way, 'light roast' coffee has more caffeine so don't load up on this until you get comfortable.

Of all the commercially available coffees, this one is just the best. Consistent, smooth, delicious. It doesn't bite back at you and it doesn't "challenge" your palate. It stands alone (black) and holds its own when mixed with milk and sugar. If I HAD to present a criticism, it might be that the ground stuff is ground very fine which doesn't make it compatible with certain types of coffee makers. For me, it works wonderfully with my good old Mr. Coffee. I also use it with the "My K-cup" and my Keurig machine and have no complaints.

This old standby coffee delivers old standby taste: workman like and suitable for most tastes. It's got some nuance but not enough to call it outstanding.

When it comes to coffee and some the subtle flavors it hides, pre-roasted, mail order types have a tough time standing up against locally fresh roasted and home ground.



But, still, I'd drink it.

You can buy this coffee at places like Walmart for $3.45/12 oz bag. The 4 bags for 24.62 you see here works out $6.15 a bag. Almost double the grocery store price. You'd be paying for shipping here as well.

This is one of the finest examples of how coffee should taste. If you are used to the Seattle over roasted beans you may find this to much of a stretch. The Starbucks and most Seattle coffees are not made with Arabica beans and the heavy roasting is used to mask cheap coffee beans.

Unfortunately with the demise of the A&P grocery chain in most of the US it is harder to find Eight o Clock and more expensive, however, it is finding it's way into other stores. If you do not like to grind your coffee you are missing out on a real treat.

A good friend of mine from Germany, where coffee is an obsession, said this was the best she has ever had other than Dallmayr coffee.

I started using this coffee because of a consumer magazine's ratings of it; they said it was very good stuff, and lo and behold, it is. I buy from Amazon because of three main reasons: first, the price is right--shipping is free, and the price is competitive. Second, I can't find this coffee in Northern California (where I live) as none of the grocery stores seem to carry it. Third, they automatically ship it two you at intervals you select (I started with every two months, now I'm at every three months). It's a high quality coffee, full of flavor, and the packaging (like most of the better coffees) tends to prolong the quality. I am somewhat of a connoisseur of coffee; I grind my coffee and I use a French press to get maximum flavor. I highly recommend the coffee and buying through Amazon.com.(and no, I don't get a percentage, this is an honest appraisal for the reasons I listed above).
