We switched to 8 0'clock balanced blend many years ago because we love our coffee but needed to cut our caffene intake.

Now we can drink as many cups as we like to. We didn't sacrifice the flavor or full body and our friends and company are always surprised that it's not "real" coffee.

Picked this up at a SUPER price on Amazon. The first pot of this coffee that I made was so blaah and lacking any body that I packed it up and sent it back.



I would give a higher rating if the coffee had been fresher. The "best if used by" dates on my shipment were not as far out as what I can buy at the "W" store by 3 or 4 months. When I opened the first bag it had a pleasant but almost non-existant aroma. The beans appeared very dry. This is confirmed by nearly no residue in the grinding chamber after grinding. But most beans from Eight O'Clock seem to be dry. I have now used Bokar Blend, Columbian, Original, and Original Decaf the 50/50. Have not tried the French of Italian roasts, but I am guessing that the beans would have some oil sheen on them.



Im summary EOC full decaf in the green bag tastes better.

I use one half cup of coffee per 12 ounces of water ; one four ounces per 6 ounces of water. the taste is always pleasantly full and refreshing even after reheating in the microwave a day or so after . It even has a pleasant taste the nest morning , cold! It is still excellent without having to empty old grounds each time if you use the same above recipe . Saves a lot of money since its freshness remains without any bitterness at all . Eight O'Clock Coffee is the best coffee I've ever used and in all my 76 years.

I was trying to find a 'strong' coffee, & this one does alright. The first couple times I made this coffee, it seemed to have a weird bitter aftertaste. I was drinking starbucks sumatra coffee before this, so maybe it was the switch in brands? We're hooked on this one now.. it's way cheaper than most out there, you save more if you do the 'subscribe & save' option.

One thing I do like about this coffee is that when it gets cold (I always end up drinking cold coffee lol) it doesn't taste horrible. Sounds crazy, but I think this one tastes better when it's cold.

I have used 8 O'Clock green bag decaf beans before and found them acceptable. Since I find caffeinated Colombian beans to be tasty, I figured Colombian Decaf would be better than the green bag. Not so. The coffee tasted flat. Didn't matter if I increased or decreased the amount used, the taste was just not very good. I have mixed them into a bag of decaf beans that have a good flavor to use them up. Doesn't seem to affect the good beans too much. Won't be buying them again.

After trying many other whole bean and ground decafs, 8 O'clock is by far the best. It tastes like a good non-decaf. I drink my coffee black without sugar and am pleased that the 8 O'clock is never bitter and never has that burnt taste that many coffees do. It took a bit of experimenting to find the right coffee to water ratio, but that is not unusual. The reasonable price is a bonus. I always used to buy the 8 O'clock at my local supermarket, but they no longer carry it. After trying some other decafs and finding them not up to the 8 O'clock standard, I looked online. I am delighted to be able to buy this excellent coffee at a reasonable price.

Good coffee if made soon after the bag is first opened, beans just ground, and coffee freshly brewed; however, the shelf life compared to comparable products seems to be quite short. And the coffee seems to get 'bitter' rather quickly after brewing. Since we like to refrigerate coffee to make iced coffee beverages, this obviously isn't a good thing. I would possibly buy this brand again, but not this type.

While this isn't quite as good as one of the bolder varieties of Peet's or Starbucks, it's reasonably close, and can be had for about half the price if you catch it on sale. I have tried most of Eight O'Clocks, and for me this is easily the best, much better than the French Roast. It also seems to deliver a bit more caffeine kick- which for me is a plus. If you're tired of paying for Starbucks, give this a try and see if it doesn't satisfy your fixation while thickening your wallet!

Eight O'Clock Dark Italian Roast is better than the French Roast. The beans are a bit darker, a bit more oily, with the coffee having a bit more flavor. Perhaps that's because the four bags I received were perfectly vacuum sealed. The French Roast bags were not.



This coffee is a big step above Folgers and other supermarket coffee. But if you like Starbucks or Peets you'll be disappointed. It's nowhere close to the full rich bold flavor and smell of these two (and some other local coffeehouses where they roast their own beans).

I love dark, rich coffee. When I was in Italy, I brought back as much as customs would allow. I've always wished someone in America would make a good coffee like that, but most seem to either leave it too light, too weak, or burnt. This isn't going to make an Italian espresso, but the coffee is dark and robust. I don't know if it's the roasting process or the packaging, but there isn't a lot of oil left in these beans, and that would go a long way toward making this a better coffee.

Generally I find Consumer Reports' reviews to be useful for purchasing good products; however, I can not support their year-after-year top ranking of Eight O'Clock coffee's Columbia Roast. I've tried it on three occassions now, making it from both drip coffee makers and french press, and the taste is akin to fast food coffee out of a styrafoam cup, albeit more freshly made than you would get from most of those establishments--i.e., musty, lingering walnut flavor. I've had to toss the cups after just a few drinks.

if you like dark, European roasts, or exotics from Kenya or Sumatra, DON'T buy this. however, if you like a light-medium, very flavorful, prototypical American cup, do. i have a few exotics around for variation, but this is my official "go to" favorite. I've re-ordered many times. yum.

Last week I ground up a bag of red bag EOC, in a Capresso Infinity conical burr grinder on the 3rd finest of 16 settings. Brewed in a real cheap(but excellent) drip maker,(at the GF's house) the results were outstanding. The nutty chocolaty taste really comes alive when ground real fine. And the slight hint of a wine finish leaves a lasting favorable aftertaste on the tongue. For the ease of availabilty and the price, the taste is hard to top.

I admit I'm weird because while I eat little chocolate I really enjoy this coffee. BiblioGal is correct that the chocolate flavor is intense, but I don't feel it overwhelms the coffee. Rather, while the balance is weighted to the chocolate, the coffee flavor stills comes through. I, too recommend this coffee to anyone who enjoys flavored coffees, but in particular to all those chocoholics out there. Enjoy!

This coffee is wonderful but you have to love chocolate because it has a very strong chocolate flavor. I loved it and after brewing my Sunday morning pot my house smelled absolutely wonderful. Delivery was very fast and as always well packaged. I can't wait to try the other flavors.

I'd recommend this coffee to anyone who loves flavored coffee and especially loves chocolate.
